SCIENCE CLASS 1

The students go to science class every Wednesday! It is located under the building and I have never seen anything like it before. Instead of lecturing at the students for 30-45 minutes, the science teacher provides them with fun experiments. This weeks experiments were about sound. 

For the first activity, the students were split into pairs. The first student dropped an object inside of the divider while the other student had to guess what was dropped inside.

For the second activity, the students used tuning forks to make sounds. First, they hit the tuning fork against a block of wood, then after hitting it against the wood they rubbed it across a piece of index paper in order to get it to vibrate, lastly after hitting the fork against the block of wood they dipped it into a bucket of water in order to get the water to make vibrations.

I LOVED every second of the class and can't wait to implement the experiments with my own students.

CASCO VIEJO

Jayla and I went out Friday after school to walk around Casco Viejo. It is the old city’s heart, popular for its lively dining and nightlife scene. We explored the many shops and bought bracelets that were hand made by local Panamanians. The scenery was breathtaking and I absolutely adored it!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

We arrived to Balboa Academy around 7:30 AM and was met by my cooperating teacher and the director. A small meeting took place and we were off to our classrooms to meet the students we would be teaching for the next month! I was instantly welcomed with love from all of the students and felt very comfortable.

DIVERSIÓN AL SOL

On Sunday we went to the beach! This was my first time ever seeing black sand and I had the time of my life. We ate lunch at a restaurant on the beach and the chicken was amazing.

Later that day with met with Ana Victoria, a recent TCU grad, and her family for dinner.

ARRIVAL

After arriving in Panama around 4:00 PM we took an hour long drive to the City of Knowledge, where we would call home for the next month. After getting settled in we met with our advisor, Dr. P, and went to dinner at a local restaurant.
